UK Driving Test Pass Rates: The 10 Best, 10 Worst and How Does Bletchley Compare?
If you are learning to drive and preparing for your practical driving test, you may have wondered whether some driving test centres are easier than others.
The latest DVSA driving test statistics for 2025/26 provide an interesting comparison. Across Great Britain, the overall car driving test pass rate was 50.0%, meaning roughly one in two candidates passed their practical test. (GOV.UK)
But the pass rate varies considerably between individual test centres.
So, where does Bletchley Driving Test Centre sit compared with the best and worst-performing centres in the UK?
The 10 driving test centres with the highest pass rates
According to the latest 2025/26 DVSA data, these were the ten centres with the highest recorded car driving test pass rates:

But does this mean these are the easiest places to take your test?
Not necessarily.
This is an important distinction for learner drivers.
For example, the Isles of Scilly recorded a 75.0% pass rate, but only 8 tests were conducted during the year. Gairloch recorded 49 tests and Pitlochry 146.
Compare that with Bletchley, where more than 9,400 tests were conducted.
A small number of tests can cause a centre’s percentage to move dramatically, so the pass rate alone should never be used to decide where you should take your driving test.

This means there was a difference of more than 40 percentage points between the highest and lowest recorded centres.
However, that doesn’t mean a learner at Wolverhampton has a 34.3% personal chance of passing, or that somebody taking their test at the Isles of Scilly has a 75% chance.
Pass rates describe what happened to a group of candidates. They don’t predict the result of an individual learner.
So where does Bletchley Driving Test Centre rank?
This is where things get particularly interesting for learners in Milton Keynes and the surrounding area.
The latest published figures show that Bletchley Driving Test Centre had a 51.5% overall pass rate in 2025/26, based on 9,415 practical car tests.
That is 1.5 percentage points above the Great Britain average of 50.0%. (testcentre.uk)
In other words, Bletchley performed slightly better than the national average.
It is certainly not one of the worst-performing test centres in the country.
In fact, the 2025/26 figures represent a significant improvement for Bletchley compared with some previous years. The published figures show the centre’s pass rate increasing from 45.7% in 2024/25 to 51.5% in 2025/26. (The Driving Instructor Directory)

So, statistically, Bletchley is slightly above average.
For learners preparing for their test there, that’s encouraging.
However, there is much more to successfully passing a driving test than the headline percentage.

What makes the Bletchley driving test challenging?
As an instructor who regularly works with learners in Milton Keynes and around Bletchley, I believe it is important not to become obsessed with the pass-rate statistics.
Bletchley has a mixture of roads and situations that require good observation, planning and decision-making.
Learners preparing for a Bletchley test need to be comfortable with:
- Busy roundabouts
- Multi-lane roads
- Correct lane selection
- Spiral roundabouts
- Changing road conditions
- Junctions with complex traffic flows
- Maintaining appropriate speed
- Independent driving
- Meeting and passing other vehicles
- Pedestrian crossings
- Appropriate use of mirrors
- Accurate positioning
- Reverse manoeuvres
- Following directions safely
These are not skills that can be learned simply by memorising a test route.
Bletchley is above average – but preparation still matters
The 51.5% Bletchley pass rate is useful information, but I would never tell a learner that Bletchley is an “easy” test centre.
Your examiner isn’t looking at the centre’s pass rate when deciding whether you pass.
They are assessing your driving.
A learner who is consistently making serious mistakes, driving without sufficient observation or struggling to deal with traffic is unlikely to pass simply because Bletchley’s overall pass rate happens to be above the national average.
Conversely, a well-prepared learner who can demonstrate safe, independent and responsible driving has every reason to approach the test with confidence.
How Bletchley compares with nearby test centres
Bletchley is also interesting when compared with other centres in the surrounding area.

This demonstrates why it is useful to look at several local centres rather than simply searching for the highest pass rate.
For a learner based in Milton Keynes, travelling a significant distance to another test centre may not necessarily give you an advantage.
You could actually be better prepared by learning on the roads around the centre where you intend to take your test.

What about first-time candidates at Bletchley?
The overall Bletchley figure includes candidates taking tests for the first time as well as people taking a test again.
The latest figures show that 49.6% of first attempts at Bletchley resulted in a pass, compared with the 51.5% overall figure. (testcentre.uk)
This is another reason why simply quoting the 51.5% figure doesn’t tell the whole story.
If you’re preparing for your first driving test, your personal preparation is much more important than whether the centre is statistically a few percentage points above or below the national average.
My advice to learners preparing for a Bletchley driving test
As a driving instructor, my advice is simple: don’t choose your test centre based purely on pass rates.
Instead, choose a centre where you can become genuinely comfortable driving independently.
If you’re preparing for your Bletchley test, you should aim to become confident rather than simply familiar with a handful of test routes.
You should be able to deal with unexpected situations, busy traffic and unfamiliar roads without your driving deteriorating.
That is much closer to what the examiner is looking for.
