Do you have a Learning Contract?

A learning contract is an agreement between a driving instructor and learner that sets clear goals, expectations and responsibilities.
It encourages commitment, regular progress reviews and open communication, helping learners take an active role in developing safe driving skills and confidence.
What are your Terms and Conditions?
Please try to avoid cancelling your driving lessons as this will hinder your progress and development.
If you need to cancel or change your lesson, please text me on this number so we have a message thread to avoid any misunderstanding.
The notice period to cancel or change a lesson is 24 hours to avoid being charged. Most other driving schools ask for 48 hours’ notice, so this is reasonable and fair.
Driving lessons can be paid for in cash at the start of our lesson or paid in advance via bank transfer. Payment reminders will be sent out before your lesson.
No shows and cancelled lessons will need to be paid in full before any further lessons are booked. I will wait 15 minutes for you if you are running late before I leave.
If I have reason to suspect that you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol or that you are excessively tired I will terminate the lesson and your payment will forfeited.
Please be aware that if you cancel lessons on a regular basis your lesson slot will be given to another pupil.
You will be responsible for any penalty notices (including speeding points and fines) received while you are driving the vehicle.
You should make every effort to keep the training vehicle in pristine condition whilst under your control.
Lesson prices will be reviewed periodically. Any revisions will be given with ample notice.
Please accept driving test bookings are provisional. They are subject to you reaching the required standard prior to the date of the test. The use my training vehicle will be withdrawn if I feel you are not ready to pass.

How do I book my Driving Theory Test?
You can book your UK driving theory test as soon as you hold a valid provisional license. You can take the test from the date of your 17th birthday or from your 16th birthday if you recieve the mobility component of PIP.

How do I apply for my Provisional Driving License?
You can apply for your first Provisional Driving License as soon as you are 15 years and 9 months old.
You must wait until you turn 17 to drive on public roads, unless you recieve the enhanced rate of the mobility component of Personal Independence Payment PIP, in which case you can start driving at 16.
Please be aware you must be able to read a standard number plate from 20 meters away. (either with glasses or contact lenses if required). You can use the following link.
How do I book my Practical Driving Test?
You can book your practical driving test as soon as you have passed your theory test. You will need your UK provisional driving license number and the pass certificate number from your theory test.
The only official way to book your car driving test is through the DVSA. Avoid unofficial websites as they often charge extra fees and are not permitted to book slots on your behalf. You can use the following link.
Which Test Centres do you use?
It's is statistically proven that taking your driving test at your local test centre greatly improves your chances of passing first time.
Driving instructors and the DVSA recommend taking your practical driving test in an area you have regularly practised in.
Familiarity with local roads, speed-limit changes, tricky junctions and roundabouts dramatically reduces cognitive load and calms nerves.
I am based in Cranfield so my learners use the driving test centres in either Bletchley (Milton Keynes) or Bedford.
I have an expert knowledge of the areas used by examiners. I am able to help you with the areas challenging Hot Spots!

What are the Tell Me questions?
At the start of your practical driving test, before you begin driving, the examiner will ask you one “tell me” vehicle safety question.
The 14 driving test tell me questions
Here are the questions you may be asked:
1. How would you check that the brakes are working?
The brake pedal should not feel spongy or slack. Test the brakes as you move off and check that the vehicle does not pull to one side.
2. Where would you find the recommended tyre pressures?
Check the vehicle manufacturer’s information. Use a reliable pressure gauge when the tyres are cold, and remember to replace the valve caps afterwards.
3. How would you adjust your head restraint?
Adjust it so that the rigid part is at least as high as your eyes or the top of your ears. It should also be as close to the back of your head as is comfortably possible.
4. How would you check that your tyres are safe?
Look for cuts, bulges or other damage. Make sure the tread depth is at least 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre and around its entire circumference.
5. How would you check the headlights and tail lights?
Switch on the lights and explain that you would walk around the vehicle to check that they are working properly.
6. How would you know if there was a problem with the ABS?
An ABS warning light on the dashboard would indicate a fault.
7. How would you check the direction indicators?
Switch on the indicators and explain that you would walk around the vehicle to check that they are working.
8. How would you check the brake lights?
Press the brake pedal and use reflections from windows or a garage door to check the lights. Alternatively, ask someone to help you check them.
9. How would you check the power-assisted steering?
If the steering becomes unusually heavy, it may indicate a fault. Apply gentle pressure to the steering wheel as you start the engine; the wheel should move slightly as the power assistance activates.
10. How would you switch on the rear fog lights?
Explain how you would operate the rear fog light switch and check that the warning light appears on the dashboard.
11. How would you switch your headlights from dipped beam to main beam?
Operate the main beam control and check that the appropriate warning light appears on the dashboard.
12. How would you check the engine oil level?
Identify the dipstick, remove and wipe it clean, then reinsert it and check the oil level. It should be between the minimum and maximum marks.
13. How would you check the engine coolant level?
Identify the coolant reservoir and check that the level is between the minimum and maximum markings. Never remove the coolant cap when the engine is hot.
14. How would you check the hydraulic brake fluid level?
Identify the brake fluid reservoir and check that the fluid level is between the minimum and maximum markings.
My top tip for learner drivers
Do not simply memorise the answers. During your driving lessons, ask your instructor to show you where each item is located on the car you will use for your driving test.
What are the Show Me questions?
If you’re preparing for your driving test in Milton Keynes you need to know your “show me, tell me” questions.
These vehicle safety questions are designed to check that you understand some basic safety checks and can operate important controls safely.
During your practical driving test, your examiner will ask you two vehicle safety questions:
- One “tell me” question before you start driving.
- One “show me” question while you are driving.
You should practise these until you can answer or demonstrate them confidently without taking your attention away from driving.
What are the show me questions?
DVSA has seven “show me” questions for the standard car driving test.
1. Show me how you wash and clean the rear windscreen
When it is safe to do so, operate the rear windscreen washer and wiper controls to clean the rear windscreen.
2. Show me how you wash and clean the front windscreen
When it is safe to do so, operate the front windscreen washer and wipers.
3. Show me how you would switch on your dipped headlights
When it is safe to do so, operate the headlight control to select dipped headlights.
4. Show me how you would set the rear demister
When it is safe to do so, operate the rear demister switch.
5. Show me how you would operate the horn
When it is safe to do so, operate the horn control.
Remember that you should only use the horn when appropriate and legal.
6. Show me how you would demist the front windscreen
When it is safe to do so, operate the controls needed to demist the front windscreen.
This will normally involve selecting the appropriate airflow direction and adjusting the fan and temperature controls.
7. Show me how you would open and close the side window
When it is safe to do so, operate the electric window control to open and close the side window.
Can I use My Own car for my Driving Lessons?
As long as your vehicle is correctly insured, is safe and legal and displays front and rear L plates I would be happy to accompany you in your own car.
You must however be aware that as I would have no dual controls I would have very limited ability to prevent a serious collision. You would have to take responsibility for the safety of both us and other road users.
Can I use My Own car for my Driving Test?
Yes, you can use your own car for your UK driving test, provided it meets the DVSA requirements. Your vehicle must be roadworthy, taxed, insured for a driving test, have a valid MOT (if required), display L-plates, and be fitted with an extra interior rear-view mirror for the examiner.

How many lessons will I need to Pass my Driving Test in Bletchley - Milton Keynes?
There is no fixed number of driving lessons required to pass your driving test at Bletchley Test Centre. Every learner is different, and the number of hours needed depends on previous driving experience, confidence, how regularly you practise and how quickly you develop safe, independent driving skills.
As a guide, the DVSA recommends that learners have around 45 hours of professional driving lessons plus 22 hours of private practice before taking their practical test. However, this is only a guide and some learners will need more or less.
Bletchley is a busy test area around Milton Keynes, with large roundabouts, dual carriageways, residential roads and changing speed limits. The latest available DVSA figures show that Bletchley had a 45.7% car driving test pass rate in 2024–25, compared with around 52% nationally.
Rather than simply counting hours, I recommend working towards driving-test standard. For some learners this may be around 40–50 hours of professional tuition, while others may need considerably more.
How many lessons will I need to Pass my Driving Test in Bedford?
There is no fixed number of driving lessons required to pass your Bedford driving test. Every learner is different, so the number of hours needed depends on previous experience, confidence, private practice and how quickly you develop safe, independent driving skills.
As a useful guide, the DVSA recommends around 45 hours of professional driving lessons alongside approximately 22 hours of private practice before taking the practical test. This is only a guide, and some learners will need more or less.
The latest published DVSA figures show that Bedford Test Centre had a 49.9% car driving test pass rate for April 2024 to March 2025. There were 8,958 tests, with 4,472 candidates passing.
In other words, approximately 1 in 2 candidates passed their driving test at Bedford during this period.
The pass rate shouldn’t be seen as a measure of how difficult your individual test will be. Your preparation, experience and ability to drive independently are much more important than the centre’s historical pass rate.
Rather than concentrating purely on the number of hours, I recommend working towards genuine driving-test standard.
For some learners this might mean around 40–50 hours of professional tuition, while others may need more. Regular lessons combined with private practice can help you progress more quickly.
