A Major Achievement for a Local Driving Instructor
I am delighted to announce that I have been recognised as one of the Top 100 Driving Instructors in the UK in the 2026 Intelligent Instructor Awards.
For me, this is a hugely significant achievement because the recognition comes from the people who matter most in driver training: my pupils and former pupils.
Unlike an award based purely on advertising, business size or personal promotion, the Intelligent Instructor Top 100 recognition is based on nominations from learners and past pupils. This makes being named among the Top 100 driving instructors in 2026 particularly special.
I am David, the owner and driving instructor behind Wilko’s Wheels Driver Training, providing professional manual driving lessons in Milton Keynes, Newport Pagnell, Cranfield and Cranfield University.
What Is the Intelligent Instructor Top 100 Award?
The Intelligent Instructor Awards are designed to recognise excellence across the driver training industry.
The 2026 Top 100 Driving Instructor list recognises instructors who have demonstrated outstanding commitment, professionalism and a positive impact on their learners and the wider driver training profession.
The award is especially meaningful because instructors are nominated by their learners and past pupils. In other words, it is the experiences of the people who have actually sat in the car, learned to drive and worked towards their driving goals that help determine who receives recognition.
For a driving instructor, that makes this achievement incredibly rewarding.

Why Being Named in the Top 100 Is Significant
There are thousands of professional driving instructors working across Great Britain. Being recognised as one of the Top 100 driving instructors in the UK therefore represents a significant achievement within a large and competitive profession.
However, the award is not simply about being able to teach somebody to pass a driving test.
Great driving instruction should be about much more than teaching manoeuvres and test routes. It should help learners develop:
- Safe and responsible driving habits
- Confidence and independence
- Better decision-making skills
- An understanding of risk and hazard perception
- The ability to drive safely without relying on an instructor
- The skills needed for life after the driving test

A Recognition from Pupils and Former Pupils
One of the most rewarding aspects of this achievement is knowing that nominations came from learners and past pupils.
Learning to drive can be a challenging experience. Every pupil is different. Some learners may be nervous when they first sit behind the wheel, while others may quickly develop confidence but need support with particular aspects of driving.
As an instructor, my role is to understand the individual learner and adapt my teaching accordingly.
This may involve traditional instruction when a pupil needs clear guidance, coaching when they need to develop their own solutions, and client-centred learning to encourage greater responsibility and independence.
The ultimate aim is not just to help someone pass their driving test. It is to help them become a safe, confident and responsible driver.
